I’ve lost a tooth. When should I get an implant?

If you have lost a tooth, or if you have a loose tooth that needs extracting, a dental implant is a great option. It is the most natural looking, and feeling option and is completely independent from your other teeth.

Once you have lost a tooth, the bone from the area will start to shrink as your body thinks that it no longer needs it. Most of the bone shrinkage occurs within the first year. Continued bone loss will mean we will have less bone to utilise for the implant. It is still possible to have an implant if the tooth has been missing for a long time, but X-rays will be necessary to determine the extent of bone loss.

It is best to book a free dental implant consultation as soon as you know you want an implant. We will take measurements of the area and advise you of the optimal time for implant placement if suitable.

If you wish to book an appointment, please call on 01844 343381 or visit our dental practice in Princes Risborough conveniently located on the High Street. We see patients from Princes Risborough, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Thame and the surrounding areas.
